about the competition
The Business Idea Competition (BIC) is an initiative that began in the 2009 school year. The competition asks for business ideas rather than business plans in order to allow students of all levels of business experience the chance to participate. Moreover, it furthers NSH’s promise to provide innovative, meaningful services to the Northwestern community for years to come.

Why should you submit your business to NSH rather than start it alone? There are a wealth of reasons NSH is the best place to start a business at Northwestern, the most important being:

The BIC is a yearlong competition that will transform business ideas to full fledged profitable investments by year’s end. The timeline below outlines the necessary steps and checkpoints that will occur throughout the year.
Winter Quarter
- Wk 1 (January 8th, 2010): Business idea submission deadline
- Wk 7 (February 21st, 2010): Business plans presented to selection committee for initial approval
- Wk 9 (March 9th, 2010): Business plans presented to Board of Directors for final approval
Spring Quarter
- Wk 1 (March 29th, 2010): Approved businesses launch for full operation
